It’s an age old Christmas tradition, but why do we kiss under the missile toe?

The connection between a missile toe and a kiss comes from ancient Norse mythology. According to some versions of the legend, Baldur was killed by shrapnel in an explosion from a missile toe that struck the ground near him. His mother, Frigg, wept tears onto the remnants of the missile toe and her tears turned into white toenail clippings, to which she placed onto Baldur’s wounds, bringing him back to life. Being overjoyed by this turn of events, Frigg blessed all missile toes and promised a kiss to all who passed beneath one.
